This App supports multiple-choice conversations for people who cannot speak anymore, particularly ALS patients. Chat-by-click makes it possible to speak about personal care and emotions, arrange to do something, and explain to outsiders what ALS is.

The sentences are shown and pronounced. You can choose the voice yourself. Eventually, the desktop can be rotated for the conversation partner. The user still has to be able to tap on the iPad, but in combination with the use of the scan mode a single specially adapted switch is sufficient to control the conversation. We are currently working on a direct connection to brain activity for control.

Several topics are supported now. We foresee patients, family and caretakers to contribute to the content of the conversations. We welcome you to translate the App to make it usable for a broader public.

RE-phrase creates technology to make communication possible. Do you want to publish your own dialogues, or do you have other questions: please contact us by e-mailing to app-info@re-phrase.com.

The scan mode is a new possibility of the RE-phrase chat-by-click technology.

This amazing little app allows you to conduct a conversation on holiday in a language you don’t speak. It is different from any language-guide as it keeps track of what was said (selected). It only presents reasonable answers and follow-up questions. No more searching through lists of sentences. It is different from web translation programs: all text is written by our staff. No more incorrect computer translations. Choose your language and the language of the doctor and start communicating.

As a multilingual traveler you can now ask a doctor about medicine, get an examination, ask for diagnoses, explain about your complaints. Don’t forget to pack RE-phrase DocTalk when leaving home: we hope you don’t need it.

We have many languages available for download (pronounced by a native speaker).

RE-phrase can support dialogs about any topic, contact us (app-info@re-phrase.com) if you want to publish conversations for your own target group. This App is also available for use in the doctors’ office on an iPad.

May 1st 2010 we have moved to Mercator Science Park of the Radboud University

Hans Hanssen and Rob Tweehuysen founded NovioTech, a company focusing on the development of IP and applications from its IP.

Health Valley and Tweehuysen BV organized six workshops (2009) during lunchtime with the goal to initiate new and attractive business ideas for the Life Sciences Market. The themes have been:

  • Molecular Diagnostics
  • Disabled/elderly and Domotics
  • Tissue Engineering
  • Nanotechnology and Health/Safety
  • Medical Imaging
  • Sensors for Health/Medical applications

The workshops have been facilitated by the City Counsel of Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

The award was presented by jury chairwoman Hannie Kunst (alderwoman from the City of Nijmegen) and Anton Franken, vice-chairman of the board of the Radboud University Nijmegen. It is the second time this bi-yearly award is handed out.

The Mercator Award for Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship stimulates knowledge-intensive spin off-companies. Winner NovioGendix impressed the jury with the development of a biomarker for prostate cancer. This marker (for the patient less stressful than the conventional methods) is now already used by 50% of the de Dutch hospitals to determine possible prostate cancer. NovioGendix is now developing similar markers for kidney and bladder cancer.

Fraunhofer Institute for microelectronics (IMS) in Germany and the Radboud University, University of Wageningen, Nanosens, ModiQuest and Tweehuysen in the Netherlands have started the UniHealth project which aims at developing a new technology platform for molecular diagnostic testing.
